Fun facts
It was found as part of an offering at the Major Temple of Tenochtitlan (Close to Mexico City).
The Starfish Shrimp (Zenopontonia soror) usually is associated with starfish like the Chocolate Chip Starfish: it lives beneath it, adopts the same color to camouflage itself, serves as its protector, and feeds off the mucus secreted by this starfish.
General aspects
Its central disc is thick and inflated, with short and thick arms and dark brown conical thorns that give it its common name. It grows to be up to 6 inches in diameter. It feeds on algae, other echinoderm (sea urchins and cucumbers) and small invertebrates.
