Fun facts
They use a complex mouth apparatus on the underside of their bellies to feed themselves, which has been called the “Aristotle´s Lantern”, in honor of the wise Greek author that described it in his book, “History of the Animals”.
General aspects
The Slate Pencil Urchin is an echinoderm: a boneless animal with “thorny skin” and an exoskeleton (external skeleton). It’s of a light brown or reddish color, with scarce thick, brown, cilindrical thorns.
