Fun facts
Besides solitary nesting, this turtle engages in mass nesting known as an “arribada”, meaning “arrival by sea”, where thousands of turtles go out to nest together.
It is the most abundant sea turtle on the planet.
Years ago, fishing and eating it were allowed, but now it´s a protected species.
General aspects
It has a triangular-shaped head, its shell is olive green, round and flat. Its body is from an olive green to a dark gray in color.
It feeds on fish, mussels and crustaceans, especially shrimp.
It can reach up to 110 pounds in weight.
