Fun facts
It is endemic of the Revillagigedo and Clipperton islands, and is sometimes found in the Gulf of California.
It is the main cleaner fish for the Giant Oceanic Manta Ray (Manta birostris).
General aspects
It has a rectangular-shaped body. It is generally a brownish-orange color with a dark brown head, a bright orange stripe behind its head and an orange caudal fin. Juveniles are of a brownish-orange color, with thin blue lines on their head and at their sides.
It eats sea sponges, tunicates, hydrozoans, crustaceans, mollusks, plankton and algae.
It lives in rocky reefs. Juveniles are solitary and territorial, while adults move along the seabed in schools of up to 30 individuals.
