It is the seasonal movement of a species from one place to another. It can occur for different motives, among them, the search for shelter, food, and mating reasons.

Periodically, the waters in the Sea of Cortez become highly rich in nutrients that are basic for the nutrition of fish of all sizes. Likewise, some of its bays and islands are safe zones for many fauna species.

Among the migratory fauna of the Sea of Cortez are: The Gray Whale, Whale Shark, Olive Ridley Sea Turtle, Green Sea Turtle, Hawksbill Sea Turtle, Humboldt Squid, Giant Squid and Snowy Plover.
