Although it was discovered since the late 1800s, very little is known about it.
Trachinotus means rough back.
General aspects
Short body, small mouth, prominent nape; head and upper body dark, sometimes golden or slightly tan, silver belly. It has a large black spot on the pectoral fin.
It inhabits shallow shallow waters and juveniles in estuaries.
It feeds on mollusks, crustaceans and small fish.
