Fun facts
It has been filmed with a camera outfitted with bait, at a depth of 1700 ft.
It forms large schools of small, migrant fish that move during the Summer in certain zones. Permanent resident populations also exist.
General aspects
A large-bodied and moderately-thin shark; its wide head has its distinctive “hammer”. It is of a light grey or grayish-brown color on top, and white on its underside.
It feeds mainly on fish, squid and octopus, and also on lobster, shrimp, crabs, other sharks and rays.
