What is Herpetofauna?
It is a group of amphibian animals and reptiles known for their hairless skin, and for being “cold blooded”; in other words, they don´t regulate their body temperature (like us) and depend on the environment to maintain their ideal body temperature. Mexico is the second country in the world with the most Herpetofauna.
What are amphibians?
They´re animals with smooth skin and no scales, feathers, or hair. They live close to the water, since their eggs depend on humidity for their development. Frogs, toads, salamanders and Axolotl salamanders belong to this group.
What are reptiles?
They´re animals known for their scaly skin, and bodies that allow them to move about in dry and extreme environments. They were the first to become independent from water for their reproduction, since their hard eggshells protect them from losing water. Animals such as snakes, turtles, lizzards and iguanas are part of this group.
